2.Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing the Service, starting a chat, joining a Tandem Group, or making a purchase, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you are agreeing on behalf of other people, for example when you start a Tandem Group and invite others, you confirm you have the authority to do so, and each person who joins accepts these Terms for themselves when they join. If you do not agree, your only remedy is to stop using the Service.
3.Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age and possess the legal capacity to enter into contracts in your jurisdiction in order to use the Service. The Service is offered from the United States and is built for renters searching within seven United States metropolitan areas. StationScope makes no claim that the Service is appropriate or available for use anywhere else, and you are responsible for complying with any local law that applies to you.
4.The Service
StationScope assists renters located in the United States in identifying neighborhoods and transit stations aligned with their commute and lifestyle preferences across seven metropolitan areas: New York, Chicago, Washington DC, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. It does this by combining public United States Census data, public transit schedule data, and AI-assisted analysis of what you tell it in chat. Recommendations are advisory in nature.
The Service is a rental search aid. It is built for people looking for a place to rent, and it declines questions about buying a home. StationScope does not list, show, broker, lease, sublet, manage, appraise, or transact in any property, does not hold or transfer any deposit or rent payment, and is not a party to any lease you sign.
5.What the Service Is Not
Nothing the Service produces is professional advice. It is not legal, financial, tax, investment, insurance, accounting, or real-estate advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a licensed professional who knows your situation. Do not treat a recommendation as a professional opinion, and consult an appropriate professional before making a decision that matters to you.
Using the Service does not create a brokerage, agency, fiduciary, employment, or partnership relationship between you and StationScope. StationScope is not a real-estate broker, salesperson, or licensee in any state, is not a housing counselor, is not a fair-housing counseling or enforcement agency, and does not represent you or any landlord in any transaction. StationScope is instructed never to include or exclude a neighborhood on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, or disability. If you believe you have experienced housing discrimination, contact the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development or your state or local fair housing agency, which are the bodies equipped to help.
StationScope does not guarantee that any apartment exists, is available, is listed, will remain available, or can be rented at any particular price in any neighborhood it recommends. It has no inventory, no listings feed, and no visibility into what is actually on the market on the day you read your report. A neighborhood being recommended is not a statement that you will find or be approved for a home there.
6.Data Sources, Rent Figures, and Commute Estimates
Rent figures shown by the Service are modeled estimates, not quotes, listings, or offers. They are derived from United States Census American Community Survey 5-year median gross rent by census tract, which reflects a period several years in the past and includes long-tenured and rent-regulated units, and StationScope then adjusts those medians upward with per-metro factors to approximate current asking rents for a new lease. Census also caps its reported medians at a top-coded value, so the highest-rent areas are shown as a floor rather than a true median. The result is an approximation of a neighborhood's rent level. It is not what any particular apartment costs, and it may be materially higher or lower than what you are quoted.
Commute times shown by the Service are modeled estimates produced by StationScope's own routing logic. That logic works from published station coordinates, line membership, and assumed average speeds and waiting times per mode. It is not a live trip planner. It does not read real-time arrivals, service alerts, planned or unplanned outages, construction, weekend and overnight schedules, crowding, elevator status, or fare gates, and it does not know how long it takes you personally to walk to a station. Treat every number as a rough comparison between options rather than as a schedule you can rely on.
Public data goes stale, upstream sources change without notice, transit lines and stations open and close, and AI-generated text can be wrong even when the underlying data is right. StationScope does not warrant that any figure is accurate, complete, current, or fit for your purpose. You must independently verify rents, availability, commute times, service patterns, building conditions, and neighborhood specifics before signing a lease, paying a deposit or an application fee, giving notice on your current home, or committing money in any other way. Do not rely on the Service as the sole basis for any of those decisions.
7.No Warranty
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, with all faults and without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, StationScope disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, quiet enjoyment, accuracy, and non-infringement. StationScope does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error free, that defects will be corrected, or that any recommendation, rent figure, commute estimate, map, or report will be accurate or reliable. Results vary from User to User and over time, and the same inputs may produce different recommendations because the Service uses generative models. No advice or information obtained from the Service creates any warranty not expressly stated here. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
8.Third-Party Services and Links
The Service relies on third parties for payments, email, hosting, maps, geocoding, and AI processing, and it may link out to listing platforms and other websites so you can continue your search. StationScope does not control, operate, endorse, or vouch for any third party, its content, its pricing, its availability, its data practices, or the accuracy of anything it shows you. Links are provided for convenience and are not a recommendation of one platform over another; StationScope has no affiliate, referral, or revenue-sharing arrangement with the listing platforms it links to. Your dealings with any third party, including any rental you find through a link, are solely between you and that third party, and StationScope is not responsible for them. Third-party services are governed by their own terms, and a third party's failure or outage may degrade or interrupt the Service without any liability on StationScope's part.
9.Acceptable Use
The Service is licensed to you for your own personal, non-commercial use in searching for a place to rent. You agree not to do any of the following, and not to help anyone else do them:
- Scrape, crawl, harvest, index, or bulk-download any part of the Service or the data it displays, by any automated or manual means.
- Access the Service through bots, scripts, headless browsers, or any automated system, or attempt to bypass rate limits, access codes, paywalls, or session controls.
- Resell, sublicense, rent, redistribute, republish, or commercially exploit the Service, any report it generates, or any access code, including sharing a paid access code outside the group that bought it.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service, probe it for vulnerabilities, or attempt to extract its prompts, models, source data, or underlying logic.
- Use the Service, or any output of it, to steer, screen, exclude, target, or otherwise discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, disability, or any other protected characteristic, or in any way that violates the Fair Housing Act or any other fair housing or anti-discrimination law.
- Present the output of the Service as your own professional advice, as a listing, as a guarantee, or as anything other than an AI-assisted suggestion, or use it in a brokerage, lending, tenant-screening, or insurance-underwriting process.
- Interfere with the Service or its infrastructure, impose an unreasonable load on it, upload malicious code, or use it to send spam or to harass anyone, including other members of a Tandem Group.
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, submit another person's information without their permission, or impersonate anyone when joining a group.
StationScope may investigate suspected misuse and may suspend or terminate access, void an access code, or block an address or network, with or without notice, if it reasonably believes this section has been breached. No refund is owed for access terminated for a breach of this section.
10.Your Content
You keep ownership of your Content. You grant StationScope a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, process, and display your Content, and to send it to the processors listed in the Privacy Policy, solely so that StationScope can operate, secure, support, and improve the Service, produce your recommendation, and in Tandem mode produce the group's shared recommendation. This licence exists for those purposes only. It does not let StationScope publish your Content, sell it, or use it to advertise to you, and it ends when the Content is deleted, apart from copies retained in backups or in records StationScope must keep.
StationScope may also produce and use aggregated or de-identified information derived from usage of the Service, for example how many sessions were run in a city or how much a recommendation cost to generate, provided that information does not identify you.
You are responsible for what you submit. You confirm that you have the right to submit it, that it does not infringe anyone's rights, and that any email address or name you enter for another person was given to you with that person's permission. Do not submit sensitive information the Service did not ask for, including financial account details, government identifiers, or health information. In Tandem mode, what you tell the chat feeds a report written for the whole group, so treat it as something your future roommates will read a summary of.
The Service itself, including its software, design, text, prompts, station data compilations, and the StationScope name and marks, remains the property of StationScope or its licensors. You receive a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use it under these Terms and nothing more. Reports generated for you are yours to use for your own housing search.
11.Pricing and Payment
StationScope offers two one-time digital purchases. Tandem mode requires a one-time payment of twenty United States dollars ($20 USD) per group in order to unlock the multi-member recommendation flow, which produces one shared recommendation emailed to the group. In Solo mode, your first neighborhood recommendation is free; unlocking the optional Refine Further feature, which lets you keep refining the recommendation for the session and email yourself one report, requires a one-time payment of five United States dollars ($5 USD). Prices are stated in United States dollars and may change for future purchases. All payments are processed by Stripe in accordance with Stripe's terms.
What a purchase buys is one report, not a subscription and not unlimited use. A Tandem purchase unlocks one group of up to five members and produces one shared recommendation for that group, delivered by email once the group finalizes; a second group needs a second purchase. A Refine Further purchase unlocks continued refinement within one Solo session and one report emailed to the address you gave at checkout; the report is sent once, and starting a new Solo search later needs a new purchase. Purchases are tied to a code or session rather than to an account, so keep the confirmation email: if you close your browser, that code is how you get your access back. StationScope is not responsible for a code you lose, delete, or share, or for a report that cannot be delivered because the email address entered was wrong or the message was filtered as spam.
Prices are exclusive of any tax that may apply, and you are responsible for any such tax. StationScope may change prices at any time; a change never affects a purchase already completed. StationScope may also offer free or discounted access codes at its discretion, and may void a code obtained by error, fraud, or resale.
12.Refunds
Tandem and Refine Further purchases are one-time digital products that grant access immediately upon payment. For this reason, all sales are final and payments are non-refundable, except where a refund is required by applicable law. Dissatisfaction with a recommendation, a change of plans, a group that never finishes its chats, or a decision not to move is not a basis for a refund. If you were charged in error, were charged more than once for the same purchase, or did not receive the access you paid for, contact StationScope at stationscope@gmail.com within sixty days of the charge and StationScope will review the billing issue and, where the claim is well founded, refund it. Please raise a billing problem with StationScope before disputing a charge with your bank, since a chargeback may result in access being revoked.
13.Availability, Changes, and Termination
StationScope is operated by one person and offers no uptime commitment or service level agreement. The Service may be unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, third-party outages, or reasons outside StationScope's control. StationScope may change, add, or remove features, cities, data sources, models, or prices at any time, and may discontinue the Service entirely. If the Service is discontinued, StationScope will make a reasonable effort to give notice on the site and to honor purchases that have already been made but not yet delivered.
You may stop using the Service at any time. StationScope may suspend or terminate your access, immediately and without notice, if it reasonably believes you have breached these Terms, if it is required to do so by law, or if continuing would expose StationScope or other Users to harm or legal risk. Sections covering your Content licence, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, dispute resolution, and governing law survive any termination.
14.Limitation of Liability
Any recommendation is a starting point for your own research, not a directive. You are solely responsible for your final housing decision, and StationScope is not responsible for that decision or for any outcome that results from using the Service or relying on a recommendation. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, StationScope shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, nor for lost savings, lost opportunity, moving costs, application fees, broker fees, deposits, lease obligations, relocation expenses, loss of data, or emotional distress, arising out of or relating to the Service, whether the claim is framed in contract, tort, warranty, statute, or otherwise, and even if StationScope was advised that such damages were possible.
StationScope's total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service shall not exceed the total amount, if any, that you actually paid StationScope in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. If you paid StationScope nothing, StationScope's total aggregate liability shall not exceed twenty United States dollars ($20 USD). These limits apply even if a remedy stated in these Terms is found to have failed of its essential purpose. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
15.Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless StationScope and its operator from and against any claim, demand, proceeding, loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or relating to your use or misuse of the Service, your Content, your breach of these Terms or of any applicable law, your infringement of anyone's rights, information you submitted about another person, or any housing decision or dispute involving you and a landlord, roommate, broker, or listing platform. StationScope may take over the defence of any matter subject to this section at your expense, and you will not settle it in a way that imposes any obligation on StationScope without its written consent.
16.Dispute Resolution, Arbitration, and Class Action Waiver
Please read this section carefully. It affects how claims between you and StationScope are resolved and limits the forums available to you. Before starting any formal proceeding, you agree to contact StationScope by email with a short written description of the dispute and the resolution you want, and to allow sixty (60) days for the two of you to try to resolve it informally. Most problems, especially billing problems, are resolved this way.
If the dispute is not resolved informally, you and StationScope agree that it will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration, administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The arbitration will be conducted in the English language and seated in Queens County, New York, though it may proceed by documents, telephone, or video where the rules allow, and you may request that any in-person hearing be held in the county where you live. The arbitrator decides all issues except those reserved to a court by this section, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction. You and StationScope each waive the right to a trial by jury.
Claims must be brought individually. You and StationScope each agree not to bring, join, or participate in a class action, collective action, consolidated action, or representative proceeding, and the arbitrator may not consolidate claims or preside over any form of representative proceeding. If this waiver is found unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim alone proceeds in court and the rest of this section still applies to every other claim.
Two things stay outside arbitration. Either party may bring an individual claim in a small claims court that has jurisdiction, and either party may ask a court for an injunction or other equitable relief to stop actual or threatened infringement or misuse of intellectual property or of the Acceptable Use section.
You may opt out of arbitration and the class action waiver by emailing StationScope within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms, with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out" and enough detail to identify you. Opting out costs nothing and does not affect any other part of these Terms or your use of the Service. Any claim must be brought within one (1) year after it arises, or it is permanently barred, unless applicable law forbids shortening the limitation period.
17.Governing Law and Venue
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of the arbitration provisions in Section 16. For any dispute that is not subject to arbitration, or to enforce an arbitration award, the exclusive venue is the state or federal courts located in Queens County, New York City, New York, and the parties consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.
18.Trademarks, Non-Affiliation, and Attribution
Transit line names, route designations, official colors, and logos are trademarks of their respective transit agencies and operators. StationScope reproduces line names and official colors solely to identify real transit service for informational purposes (nominative fair use). StationScope is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise associated with any transit agency, operator, government body, or the third-party listing sites it may link to. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
This product uses the Census Bureau Data API but is not endorsed or certified by the Census Bureau. Transit station and route information is derived from schedule data (GTFS feeds) published by the transit agencies. Map data is from OpenStreetMap contributors and its providers, credited on each map. The Service's typefaces (Overpass, Overpass Mono, Hanken Grotesk, Noto Sans, and server-side fallback fonts) are used under the SIL Open Font License; the license text is available at /fonts/OFL.txt.
19.General Provisions
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions stay in full force.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and StationScope about the Service, and they replace any earlier understanding on the subject.
StationScope's failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any rights under them; StationScope may assign them, for example if the Service is sold or transferred. Nothing in these Terms creates a third-party beneficiary. Neither party is liable for a failure to perform caused by events beyond its reasonable control.
These Terms are offered in English, Spanish, and Chinese for convenience. If the versions differ, the English version governs.
20.Changes to These Terms
StationScope may amend these Terms from time to time. The current version is always posted on this page, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. For a material change, StationScope will make a reasonable effort to give notice on the site before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Service following the effective date of any amendment constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms. If you do not accept an amendment, stop using the Service. An amendment to the arbitration section in Section 16 does not apply to a dispute of which StationScope had notice before the amendment took effect.
21.Contact
Questions regarding these Terms, billing issues, and any notice required under these Terms may be directed to stationscope@gmail.com. Email is the only support channel StationScope monitors.
